Wendy H. Wong is an author, researcher & professor of Political Science and Principal’s Research Chair at the University of British Columbia. She is an expert on human rights, emerging technologies, and global governance. Wendy is the author of the forthcoming book, “We, the Data: Human Rights in the Digital Age” (MIT Press) and two other titles on civil society.

The project

Wendy, an accomplished author and researcher, contacted me with a need to redesign her existing Weebly website on Squarespace. She felt that her website was outdated, difficult to edit, and did not accurately represent her personality or the wide range of her professional achievements. Wendy's goal was to have a modern, user-friendly website that effectively showcased her expertise and her diverse portfolio of written works.

The Squarespace website design process

Our collaboration started with a comprehensive strategy session where we discussed Wendy's vision, goals, and inspirations. Following this, Wendy gathered all the necessary elements for her new website, including updated photography and professional branding done by another designer.

began the process of incorporating Wendy's new branding into a fully custom Squarespace website. Over a two-week period, I designed and developed a custom Squarespace website that included a tailor-made team page and media press page. These pages were strategically designed for ease of updating and showcasing new publications or team members.

Inspired by Wendy's research focus on human rights and emerging technologies, I integrated custom animations that reflected the nature of her work. To ensure Wendy could make future updates independently, I provided her with a video recording and a PDF guide.

The result of our collaboration is a distinctive, highly functional, and user-friendly Squarespace website that truly reflects Wendy’s professional identity and expertise. The site is memorable and easy to navigate, with custom pages designed for easy updates. This allows Wendy to effortlessly showcase new team members and publications. The new online presence not only supports Wendy's new brand but also provides a seamless and engaging experience for visitors.
